Our Story
Volunteer.YYC was founded by Alexis Espanioli and Christal Robles amidst the pandemic in early 2021. Our journey began when our passion for volunteering collided. The increasing demand for volunteers from a multitude of organizations during the pandemic sparked the idea to create a social media page dedicated to promoting volunteer opportunities around the city. From our experiences and those of others, we understand how time-consuming and overwhelming it may be to find the right volunteer opportunity. Therefore, it was our goal to simplify the volunteer application process for Calgarians by creating a summarization of required information and easy-to-follow steps. Our social media page aims to inspire individuals to volunteer and provide accessible information about a variety of opportunities in a singular place.

In the spirit of respect, reciprocity and truth, we honour and acknowledge Moh’kinsstis, and the traditional Treaty 7 territory and oral practices of the Blackfoot confederacy: Siksika, Kainai, Piikani, îethka Nakoda Nations: Chiniki, Bearspaw, Goodstoney and Tsuut’ina Nation. We acknowledge that this territory is home to the Otipemisiwak Métis Government of the Métis Nation within Alberta Districts 5 and 6. Finally, we acknowledge all Nations – Indigenous and non – who live, work and play on this land, and who honour and celebrate this territory.
This sacred gathering place provides us with an opportunity to engage in and demonstrate leadership on reconciliation.
